Are my photos and readings private?

Yes. Cloud scan sends the photo transiently to Google Cloud Vision. Device scan runs OCR locally, does not upload the photo, and may download the selected language pack. ScanToRead does not store the photo. Recognized text is sent to AI TTS Microservice for cleanup and speech. Optional translation, summary, and TTS remain cloud-backed. Private reading data is kept for up to 30 days and usage counters for up to 2 days.

Do I need an account?

Yes. ScanToRead is included with AI TTS Microservice Pro and Enterprise plans. You connect it once by pasting an API key from your AI TTS Microservice dashboard, and the key stays on your device.

Does it use my credits?

Preparing the private reading does not use speech credits. Turning accepted text into speech uses your AI TTS Microservice credits, at the same rate as anywhere else in your account.

What can it read well?

Printed English text: menus, letters, signs, worksheets, packaging. It is not built for handwriting, and a blurry or badly lit photo gives a blurry result.
